"I remember coloring pictures of cardinals with my mother at the kitchen table before I ever started school. I have been painting and drawing ever since. I took art classes in high school and painted in oils when my boys were small. Moved to Texas and took more classes and couldn’t understand why anyone would want to paint with acrylics. We moved back to Kansas and I fell in love with silverpoint (I still enjoy it’s shimmer)." Whether in colored pencil, pen, or precious metals like bronze and silverpoint, Mary Bauer's work is always a delight. Artist Mary Bauer specializes in pen and ink drawings. She's one of the few artists at the gallery who utilize these sharp dry materials to create her work, and the details are phenomenal! Mary Bauer worked at Skinner’s Nursery and learned to paint by observing plants. In the natural world, foliage is as important as the flowers for plants. Mary came to appreciate the subtle differences in the greens, purples, reds, blues and yellows that make up a leaf. With a palette that changes with the seasons, Mary continues to observe and create her vivid drawings, each one bursting with life!
