"In my paintings, my aim is to capture the beauty of the Kansas landscape and the American West and Southwest, paying special attention to light, from the rich, golden light late on a summer evening to the high, intense light of midday. Future artistic endeavors will include paintings from trips in 2004 and 2007 with my husband to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, and the Serbian Republic, as well as painting from a July, 2009 trip to Switzerland. Several trips to the American Northwest have given me a whole new realm of subject matter, not to mention a new, more muted color palette. Reducing the sheer grandeur and scale of The Columbia River Gorge, Mt. St. Helens Volcano, and Mt. Rainier to a flat canvas are a challenge in themselves."
A professional goal of mine is to take painting workshops in Taos, Santa Fe and elsewhere to expand my techniques and horizons, while interacting with other artists and learning from professional instructors.
