Hi Stockwell earned his degree in from Washburn Unviersity. He got into painting thanks to another Topeka painter named Barbara Waterman-Peters and a group of friends who encouraged him to keep painting in 2010. His work involves several layers, starting with a monochrome underpainting where color is added on top. This creates a highly realistic piece that focuses on accurate value before the colors are added.
Hi has been accepted to numerous juried shows, including national and international competitions. His work has been featured in Kansas and Topeka Magazines. He continues to work and learn through painting, and finds the process has opened his eyes to the diverse beauty of Kansas.
