C. T. (Fred) Hsia is a retired architect who enjoyed art classes thru grade school to college in Taiwan. He also earned a Masters in Architecture at KSU, Manhattan, KS. He resides in Topeks, KS. While Fred was working for a firm in Topeka, he took, on and off, art classes in the evenings at Washburn University from 1976 to 1979. Not until 2006, in anticipating his retirement from his own practice, he resumed art classes at WU; since then, he has been pursuing painting. Fred is a certified Signature Member of the Kansas Watercolor Society. Many of his works (Oil &/or WC) were accepted to various regional and national juried competitions in KCMO, Overland Park, Lawrence, Topeka, Wichita, Salina, Lindsborg and Ft. Hays. Some were awarded with 1st, 2nd & 3rd place respectively. In 2014, Fred, with enthusiastic artists, organized a Paint-Out-Group to paint outdoors during the fair weather seasons in and around Topeka; locations also extended to Holton, Tecumseh, Overbrook, Wamego, Lake Wabaunsee, Mission Creek and Echo Cliff, Dover. During Winter and Summer periods, the POG made field trips to art museums and galleries in Kansas City, Lawrence, El Dorado, Wichita and Manhattan.
